Calendar

I have long dreamed about calendar reform, with the main desire to keep things nice and tidy. For quite a while, I was fixated on a perfectly even number of days per month using a system of 13, 28 day months. Each month would be exactly four weeks with a year day and leap day tacked on the end as holidays which would exist neither in a month or a standard week. Though this was tidy, the thing that bothered me was the prime number of months which made the calendar difficult to break into smaller pieces. I also struggled with coming up with 13 month names…

As I was thinking about it more, I realized that if I divided the year into four equal sets of weeks, there would be one extra week per quarter, which gave me my final iteration: a year divided into four seasons. Each of the seasons has three months: a four week month, a five week month, and a four week month. In order to make the calendar less Northern hemisphere centric, I named the summer and winter seasons after the direction of the sun (North for the Northern summer and South for the Southern summer), and used East and West for the spring and summer seasons. To better align with the solar patterns, the first day of the calendar is the Eastern equinox (spring in the North, autumn in the South).

The year day and leap day are still added to the end of the year, and do not appear in a week or month. This allows the days of the month and the days of the week to always remain in alignment.

Naming

The naming of the months is taken from the season and the position in the season - rising, mid, or setting. For example, the first month of the year is rising east, and the final month is setting west.
